Liberty Eagles
1871-CC $10 AU50 PCGS. Variety 1-A. Like its double eagle counterpart, the 1871-CC ten is a scarce date in all grades with only about 100 pieces known. Uncirculated coins are prohibitively rare, and AU examples are infrequently offered. This issue comes from a mintage of only 8,085 pieces, and it is scarcer overall than the double eagle of the same date. Nonetheless, there is room for appreciation of the 1871-CC ten in AU and better condition.
The present coin displays sharp detail and rich orange-gold coloration. Portions of the fields retain subtle luster and semiprooflike reflectivity. Scattered abrasions are light for the grade, and high-point wear is equally minimal. This is an attractive AU coin for the Carson City gold collector. Population: 11 in 50, 14 finer (2/17).
