Indian Eagles
1916-S $10 MS64+ PCGS. While the 1916-S is relatively available in About Uncirculated to low Mint State grades, it becomes increasingly scarce at the Select Uncirculated level and very scarce any finer. We seldom have the opportunity to offer near-Gem or Gem specimens. No ten dollar gold pieces were struck at the other Mints for the year, putting the 1916-S under considerable pressure from date collectors.
Frosty yellow-gold luster blankets both sides of this high-end Choice ten. Surface abrasions are limited to a few tiny ticks -- one on the 9 in the date, and a light abrasion to the right of the eagle's head. Pleasing reddish-orange accents embellish the well-defined headdress, and the strike is sharp throughout. The present coin is just one of three earning the PCGS Plus designation at the MS64 level. Population: 42 in 64 (3 in 64+), 23 finer (2/17).
