Liberty Double Eagles
1861 $20 MS62 PCGS. A mintage of nearly 3 million coins, unsurpassed in scale until 1904, explains the relative prevalence of 1861 Liberty Head twenty dollar gold pieces. That said, Uncirculated survivors are scarce. The hair strands are remarkably well-detailed for a No Motto double eagle, and frosty mint luster washes over each side. Yellow-gold color dominates at first glance, but close inspection reveals rose and green-gold shadings. Bagmarks in the left obverse field limit the grade.
