1860 $5 Clark, Gruber & Co. Five Dollar MS61 PCGS. CAC. K-2, R.4. Kagin-2 is the only die variety known of the 1860 Clark, Gruber & Co. five dollar gold piece. This example is a trifle soft on the central shield and the corresponding obverse hair curls, as usual, but it is devoid of of any discernible friction. Remnants of luster remain in the peripheral portions of the fields, while each side displays lovely olive-gold patina with tinges of amber-orange and peach hues. The surfaces are smooth and attractive. Listed on page 405 of the 2017 Guide Book. Population: 7 in 61, 18 finer. CAC: 2 in 61, 7 finer (2/17).
