1798 $1 Large Eagle, Knob 9, 5 Vertical Lines, 10 Arrows, B-6, BB-96, R.3, XF40 PCGS. Bowers Die State II. A desirable Large Eagle variety with the Knob 9 in the date and 5 vertical lines in each shield stripe. Scarce in grades above VF, the BB-96 shows just 10 arrows with arrowheads plus two sticks. This example is struck from an early die state without visible die cracks, although the obverse was lapped. Original, dusky taupe-gray toning visits both sides with areas of lighter, silver-gray patina. Remarkably few marks exist on the well-defined surfaces -- an excellent collector coin.
