Early Dollars
1798 $1 Large Eagle, Pointed 9, 10 Arrows, B-13, BB-108, R.2, XF40 PCGS. Bowers Die State IV. Lumplike die flaws between star 13 and the bust drapery identify the BB-108 obverse, while the 10 Arrows reverse helps confirm the attribution. Struck from a late state of the dies, when the reverse was remarried to the BB-108 obverse after an intervening mintage of the scarce BB-109 (cut short by failure of that reverse die). A pale planchet streak runs through star 9 to Liberty's forecurl, yet the eye appeal is strong for this golden-gray early dollar with traces of mint luster still in evidence beneath the attractive, medium patina. Only tiny marks exist on either side. Housed in a green label holder.
