1872-CC $1 -- Improperly Cleaned -- NGC Details. AU. OC-1, High R.3. Osburn-Cushing Die State a/a. There was limited demand for silver dollars in the Nevada territory in the early 1870s, and limited availability of silver bullion as well. This example is sharply defined but shows evidence of cleaning beneath deep, orange-gray patina. Many of the few surviving 1872-CC dollars have problems of one sort or another, and this example with About Uncirculated sharpness remains a desirable representative of the scarce, low-mintage date. Just 3,150 pieces were struck.
