Proof Trade Dollars
1878 T$1 PR62 Cameo NGC. The first of the proof-only Trade dollars, a series subset that continued until 1885. Collector awareness of the proof-only status was limited in 1878, thus the proof date has a lower mintage (900 pieces) than the 1879 through 1883 emissions. The present fully struck and faintly hairlined specimen has frosty motifs and glassy fields. Toning is limited to golden-brown and aquamarine iridescence near the rims.
Ex: Jules Reiver Collection (Heritage, 1/2006), lot 21595, which realized $3,335.
From The Pellegrini Collection, Part IV.
