Morgan Dollars
1882-S $1 MS68 NGC. VAM-20, R.3. Mintmark Tilted Far Left. Earthy shades of red, blue, and slate-gray surround the raised devices at the margins, while the lustrous and semireflective fields are only lightly toned and the frosted, smooth portrait of Liberty is nearly white. Only a handful of random, minuscule marks can be found with a lens, none of any significance. As is normal for the issue, the strike is just a bit short of full but still resoundingly sharp. While numerous Superb Gem examples of the 1882-S survive, relatively few pieces achieve the MS68 grade and no examples are certified in a higher numeric grade by either service. Census: 122 in 68 (2 in 68+, 8 in 68★), 0 finer (2/17).
