1854-D $5 Weak D AU53 NGC. Variety 37-DD. The very top of the Dahlonega mintmark is apparent below the feather tip. The low date variant for the issue. The 1854-D mintage was 56,413 pieces, and survivors are about evenly divided into four die pairs. Variety 37-DD is the sole Weak D marriage. This original apricot-gold example is smooth aside from a grooved area on the upper reverse rim. A mint-made lamination is noted near the I in LIBERTY.
