1856-S $5 AU58 PCGS. Designated as a near-Mint coin by PCGS and clearly worthy, as the devices are bold and hints of luster remain in the fields. This straw-gold San Francisco half eagle is lightly marked but shows no major abrasions. The 1856-S boasts a fairly significant mintage of more than 105,000 pieces, however, high-end AU coins are scarce, and Mint State pieces are decidedly rare. Population: 14 in 58, 6 finer (1/17).
