Liberty Half Eagles
1874-CC $5 VF25 PCGS. Variety 1-C. The base of the 7 is over a dentil, and the mintmark is level. Half eagle production at the Carson City Mint reached its highest point to date in 1874. A mintage of 21,198 coins would only be surpassed in 1880. The 1874-CC is relatively available despite a typical survival rate of 1%. This well-circulated five dollar gold piece shows hues of olive and rose with full centers on the stars. The portrait and eagle are worn, but the overall impression is clear. Pleasing with attractive coloration. Population: 9 in 25, 100 finer (2/17).
