Liberty Half Eagles
1877-CC $5 VF35 PCGS. Variety 1-B. Carson City half eagles were seldom used in local trade. The 8,680 five dollar gold pieces struck there in 1877 mostly found their way to San Francisco, the Eastern states, and abroad, per Rusty Goe (2003). Although we will never know where this VF35 example circulated, it shows clear signs of commercial usage. Blending is evident over well-defined motifs, and small marks are peppered throughout. The surfaces display hints of reddish-gold and olive. A very scarce, in-demand issue.
