1883-CC $5 -- Repaired - Polished -- ANACS. AU Details. Variety 1-A. The small mintage of 12,958 coins made the 1883-CC half eagles scarce from day one. Today, few pieces exist in Mint State and even About Uncirculated coins are rare. This example shows AU details but smoothing in the left obverse field creates an undulating surface. Overall, the fields and devices are bright and reflective from polishing with resultant hairlines and an unnatural sheen. A challenging Carson City issue nevertheless.
