Indian Half Eagles
1911-D $5 AU55 NGC. The low mintage 1911-D circulated to a surprising extent, since only about 15% of the NGC Census is in Mint State grades. The circulation was likely in the West, where a hard money tradition lingered until World War I. The present yellow-gold example shows light wear on the cheekbone, but the motifs show luster, and no marks are apparent.
