Liberty Eagles
1878-CC $10 VF20 PCGS. Variety 1-A. Gold deposits at the Nevada mint continued to decline in 1878. Only 3,244 ten dollar gold coins were struck then, down from 3,332 pieces the year before. The survivorship of the 1878-CC is correspondingly meager with an estimated 60 to 75 coins extant. Examples appear at auction no more than four of five times a year. Few of them are in what most would consider to be affordable grades. This well-worn, orange-gold eagle provides an excellent opportunity to obtain a representative of this rare emission. Housed in a previous generation green label holder.
