Liberty Double Eagles
1896-S $20 MS61 Prooflike NGC. A brilliant, lemon-gold example of this readily available San Francisco double eagle from a mintage of more than 1.4 million pieces. Prooflike pieces are just a small minority of survivors. This example at one time displayed fully mirrored fields on both sides, although the surfaces are busy with chatter and small reeding marks in its current state. Through it all, the coin retains its sharp, Mint-fresh appeal and blazing luster. Census: 29 in 61 (1 in 61★) Prooflike, 15 finer (2/17).
