Liberty Double Eagles
1897-S $20 MS64+ PCGS. The rarity of many S-Mint twenties changed dramatically with the discovery and dispersal of the Saddle Ridge Hoard, consisting of more than 1,400 double eagles dated between 1847 and 1894. No 1897-S twenties were included in the find, allowing its population of high-grade pieces to remain unaffected. Scarce in Plus-graded Choice Uncirculated and rare in full Gem condition, the issue is seldom available without coarse abrasions. This delightful, greenish-gold example is sharply struck, lustrous, with minimal marks. Rose-gold highlights add eye appeal. Population: 54 in 64+, 14 finer (2/17).
