A pair of Greek gold lion head earrings. Hellentistic period, circa 3rd cent. BC. D/ Each with a hoop of four tapering wires braided together, terminating with embossed pin at one end and widening into lion's head finial at the other. The lion's head joined to the hoop by a collar of seven tongues and a band decorated with filigree ivy-leaves, framed by beaded wires. The head with magnificent radiating mane made in two halves in repoussé.
