The prominent F that appears on the obverse of this coin has long been interpreted as standing for Phrygillos, the great artist who also signed dies at Syracuse, though this is actually uncertain (sometimes the same letter appears in company with a small bird, a finch, which is a pun on the artist´s name - as HN III 1782). What is particularly intriguing is that a very small monogram of EY appears on the bull´s rump: this has been taken by some as the signature of Euainetos, another great Syracusan engraver. However, this seems to be unlikely since the same monogram appears on following coin, along with what is clearly an artist´s signature on the ground line. It should nevertheless be clear that the people of Thurium were proud of their coinage and insisted on gaining the services of a number of exceptionally talented engravers.
In addition, winning bids of EEC clients for this coin are subject to a 5% fee on hammer price as a reimbursement for import duty paid to HMRC.
This coin is Not subject to any kind of US import restrictions.
