Scarce medal issued by the Brussels Committee in Belgium honoring the 1831 Polish uprising against the Russian Imperial rule; designed and struck by Barre. The medal symbolizes heroic Poland as a wounded and tired female with the sword in one hand supported by a "sister" figure (Belgium). Belgium was one of the few European countries helping Poland during its fight against Russian Empire. The November Uprising (1831 Polish Revolution) against the Russian rule was crashed by the Russian army with many thousands of Poles killed in the fighting; Poland did not see itself as an independent country again until 1918...
