Cuba Republica de Cuba 1000 Pesos 1947 Pick 76Aa. Tomas Estrada Palma who served as President of the Republic of Cuba in arms during the Ten Years War (1868-1878). He was captured by the Spanish and sent into exile. He made his way to New York and worked with Jose Marti and upon Marti's death assumed leadership of the Cuban Revolutionary Party. On December 31, 1901 he was elected President of the Republic of Cuba and served from 1902-1906. He passed away in 1908. This was the largest denomination "Silver Certificate" issued which undoubtedly accounts for its rarity. PMG grades this note Choice Uncirculated 64 Net, noting rust.
