St. John's, NF- Government of Newfoundland $1 Jan. 2, 1920 Ch. # NF-12a. The Newfoundland Treasury Notes of 1920 were issued to deal with a shortage of silver coin (precipitated, as Charlton notes, by the withdrawal of the cash notes) at a time when the price of silver was very high on world markets.
