Colonials
1787 CENT Fugio Cent, STATES UNITED, 4 Cinquefoils, Pointed Rays, MS64 Brown NGC. N. 13-X, W-6855, R.2. Ex: The Old New England Collection. Traces of the initial fire-red color linger near peripheral elements, although the fields and high points are medium brown. The glossy surfaces are unabraded, but we note two small roundish strike-throughs, one each on the sundial blade and the left cheek of the sun. At least two sets of clash marks from the rings accompany the date and FUGIO. The strike is crisp except for softness on the lower left obverse border. The slender vertical die crack at 6 o'clock on the reverse, along with the high grade, makes it likely that the present piece was once part of the Bank of New York holdings. Listed on page 89 of the 2017 Guide Book.
