1789 TOKEN Mott Token, Thick Planchet, Plain Edge MS64 Brown PCGS. CAC. Breen-1020, Rulau-E-NY-610. The Mott Token was regarded as an 18th century storecard until it was noted that the eagle resembled John Reich's motif on the five dollar piece, introduced in 1807. This is a late die state with a large break from the northwest clock corner and an indistinct appearance on the shield. The chocolate-brown surfaces are unmarked but appear granular, as made from worn-out dies. Listed on page 76 of the 2017 Guide Book.
