1783 COPPER Georgivs Triumpho Token MS62 Brown PCGS. Baker-7, W-10100, Musante GW-54, R.3. The present coin is the only example certified as Mint State by PCGS (3/17). A chocolate-brown and tan Washington piece with generally unabraded surfaces. Sharply struck for the issue. The usual late die state with a heavy break in front of the caged Britannia. The Georgivs Triumpho is the only 1783-dated Washington piece actually struck in the 1780s. The design is intriguing in that the obverse bust is based on that of King George III on Irish 1775-1782 coppers but the reverse shows a symbolic Britannia contained by a wall with 13 vertical bars held together by a frame with the French fleurs de lis at the corners. Perhaps no portrait of George Washington was then available to the engraver. Listed on page 81 of the 2017 Guide Book.
