Seated Half Dollars
1851 50C Repunched Date, WB-102, Die Pair 5, R.4 -- Cleaning -- PCGS Genuine. AU Details. A much better date in the series, struck when California gold was plentiful and the ratio of silver to gold was out of balance. The silver content of an 1851 half dollar exceeded its face value, and many pieces were melted. This example has About Uncirculated sharpness but was cleaned, with visible hairlines and a few lilac-gray areas on the bright silver surfaces. The date is far left, slightly repunched on the 1 and 8, and strongly bounce doubled on the other digits.
