Seated Half Dollars
1851 50C Repunched Date, WB-104, Die Pair 8, R.6, AU55 PCGS. A rare variety (and a scarce Philadelphia issue) with the top of an errant 8 in the dentils between the primary 8 and 5. Diagonal lines in the recesses between the vertical shield lines confirm the die pair. The new (2016) Bill Bugert Register for the Philadelphia Mint die marriages 1839-1852 mentions a small cud on the reverse rim below L in HALF, but it is not present on this coin. Brilliant surfaces of this Choice About Uncirculated example show faint delicate lines and small ticks in the fields. The strike is sharp, with only minor rounding on a couple of obverse stars. This is a important opportunity for the Seated half specialist. Population (all varieties): 14 in 55, 38 finer (3/17).
