Proof Seated Half Dollars
1873 50C No Arrows, Closed 3 PR66 PCGS. CAC. In 1873, before the Mint noticed the 3 in the date more closely resembled an 8 than a 3, 600 proof halves were struck with no arrows on either side of the date. The arrows were added later to designate a slight weight change. The proof half dollars with no arrows were struck early in the year before the 3 was altered. This is a spectacular, deeply mirrored proof that displays reddish-golden patina throughout most of the centers with occasional dabs of deep blue at the margins. Population: 15 in 66 (2 in 66+), 5 finer. CAC: 6 in 66, 2 finer (3/17).
