Early Dollars
1798 $1 Large Eagle, Pointed 9, Four Berries, B-8, BB-125, R.2, VF30 PCGS. Bowers Die State IV. Powder-blue, sea-green, and steel-gray toning enriches this minimally marked midgrade early dollar. E PLURIBUS UNUM is fully readable. Buckling of the reverse die causes weakness of impression on UNITED and obverse stars 5 through 7. B-8, BB-125 is the only 1798 variety with four berries on the branch, and thus receives its own Guide Book listing. This is an especially smooth and original example. Population (for the variety): 2 in 30, 11 finer (3/17).
