Early Dollars
1799 $1 7x6 Stars, B-8, BB-165, R.3, XF40 NGC. Liberty has an open mouth on this easily recognizable variety. The 1 in the date is relatively far from the curl. This obverse die was used only to produce this variety, as was the reverse die. It is interesting to note that the N in UNITED was initially cut upside down and later corrected. The peripheral details are well defined, but some diagnostic softness is noted in the centers. Richly toned with deep crimson-gray patina throughout and underlying glimmerings of blue just beneath. An attractive example with no mentionable abrasions.
