Proof Seated Dollars
1870 $1 PR65 PCGS. OC-P1. According to Mint records, a generous mintage of 1,000 proof Seated Liberty dollars was accomplished in 1870. One obverse die was combined with three different reverses to strike these proofs. This Gem specimen is sharply detailed throughout and shows the light doubling on the banner that identifies the OC-P1 variety. The well-preserved surfaces are toned in shades of greenish-gold and electric-blue, with deeply mirrored fields underneath. Moderate field-device contrast is evident on both sides. The 1870 proof is rarely seen this fine, and higher-grade pieces are exceedingly rare. This coin possesses tremendous visual appeal. Population: 17 in 65, 6 finer (3/17).
