1972 1C Doubled Die Obverse, FS-101, MS67 Red PCGS. The diagnostic strong doubling on the date, LIBERTY, and IN GOD WE TRUST shows a wide clockwise spread, confirming the much-sought Cherrypickers' FS-101 variety. Other doubled-die obverse varieties exist for the 1972, which would make an interesting and extremely challenging subset in the Lincoln Memorial series to assemble. This attractive and lustrous fire-orange example fits easily into the Superb Gem category with only a few microscopic marks and flecks. The strike is first-rate. Population: 47 in 67 Red, 1 finer (3/17).
