Liberty Nickels
1885 5C MS65 PCGS. Amazingly few 1885 Liberty nickels exist in Gem or finer grades, considering the series was heavily collected starting in the 1930s. Many high-grade collections opted for proofs to fill the open slot in a Whitman coin album or Wayte Raymond coin board. Even then, the 1885 was recognized for its low mintage and key date status. This brilliant and frosty Gem is lustrous and sharp at the centers, although the ear of corn lacks definition. A few small marks exist on the reverse alongside several bold die cracks. The obverse is razor-sharp. Wisps of golden toning add appeal to the brilliant-nickel surfaces. Population: 57 in 65 (4 in 65+), 44 finer (3/17).
