1944-D/S 1C FS-511 MS66 Red PCGS. There are two D/S overmintmark varieties known for 1944, attributed as FS-911 and FS-912 in the Cherrypicker's Guide. The variety offered here, sometimes called the Strong D/S, is more popular and rarer than the other variety. The top of the S is completely visible above the D. The less desirable FS-912 has the curve of the S visible to the left of the upright of the D, and carries a substantially lower premium. This impressive piece has a bold strike and frosty orange mint luster with a thin diagonally toning line through ON of ONE. Population: 12 in 66 Red (2 in 66+ Red), 1 finer (3/17).
