Buffalo Nickels
1913 5C Type One, 3-1/2 Legs, FS-901, MS66 PCGS. Extensive die polishing removed evidence of unwanted clash marks, at the same time removing a portion of the bison's front, right leg. The result is this distinctive and rare 3-1/2 Leg variety, an important component of a specialized variety set of Buffalo nickels. Bill Fivaz and J.T. Stanton report that collector Joseph Ambrulevich discovered the variety nearly 30 years ago in 1988. Since then, only seven Mint State examples have been certified at PCGS and NGC, and the present Premium Gem is the finest of those submissions, showing wispy champagne toning over fully brilliant and lustrous gray surfaces. Population: 1 in 66, 0 finer (3/17).
