1942-D 5C D Over Horizontal D, FS-501, MS66 Full Steps PCGS. The reverse and the left obverse are toned pumpkin-gold, while the right obverse is powder-blue and rose-red. A lustrous and boldly struck example of this Guide Book blundered mintmark variety. Carbon and contact are incidental only. Cherrypickers' describes the 1942-D Over Horizontal D as "the rarest of the major Jefferson nickel varieties in Mint State" and indeed, most PCGS-certified examples of the variety are in circulated grades, with one example each certified as Good 6 and VG8. Population: 4 in 66 Full Steps, 0 finer (3/17).
