Bust Half Dollars
1814/3 50C O-101a, R.2, MS64 PCGS. CAC. This late die state example has prominent obverse die cracks and clash marks, and lighter reverse cracks and clash marks. The obverse cracks extend through the date, and through the stars to the left. The reverse has a delicate crack through the bottoms of UNITED. This piece ranks among a number of high grade 1814/3 half dollars, almost invariable from the late die state. The finest early state examples fall in the XF-AU range, while several late die state pieces grade MS64 or finer. This piece has excellent satin luster and bold design motifs with pale gold toning on both sides. Population: 5 in 64 (2 in 64+), 1 finer (3/17).
