Seated Half Dollars
1859-O 50C WB-101, Die Pair 8, R.4, MS66 PCGS. CAC. Middle die state -- cracked, but not clashed. Purple-rose centers turn to gold and blue iridescent toning at the rims on this gorgeous Premium Gem example. Surface marks are seemingly nonexistent under the swirls of deep color. The coin is as sharply struck as many proofs, save for partial weakness on obverse stars 12 and 13. The 1859-O is a conditionally rare issue, despite its high mintage of more than 2.8 million coins. We have previously offered only a handful of Premium Gems at auction, and only a single Superb Gem is known to exist. The eye appeal of this piece is spectacular. Population: 8 in 66 (2 in 66+), 1 finer. CAC: 7 in 66, 1 finer (3/17).
