Walking Liberty Half Dollars
1917-S 50C Reverse MS65 PCGS. CAC. The Reverse Mintmark variant of the 1917-S Walking Liberty half dollar is scarce in Gem condition and rare finer. CAC-endorsed coins are rarely seen in MS65 and are prohibitively rare finer. Even so, the Reverse Mintmark variety is a trifle more plentiful in these grades than its Obverse Mintmark counterpart and may be the better option for the quality-conscious date collector.
The present coin is impressively well-struck on the central devices and shows frosty, original mint luster. Some delicate olive-gold border toning attractively frames brilliant interiors. A loupe is required to locate any grade-limiting marks, which are virtually invisible to the naked eye. In fact, as the CAC endorsement suggest, this piece borders on a higher grade. Population: 50 in 65, 11 finer. CAC: 15 in 65, 3 finer (3/17).
