Walking Liberty Half Dollars
1923-S 50C MS65 PCGS. CAC. Ex: Sounder. Gem-quality 1923-S Walkers are scarce, and finer examples are genuinely rare. The date is far scarcer in all Mint State grades than its mintage of more than 2.1 million coins would suggest. This is an issue that circulated extensively in the Western regions. No half dollars were struck at any mint in 1922, and none again from 1924 through 1926. The '23-S was a workhorse issue in the economy.
This Gem survivor is in a minority of CAC-approved coins, and it is housed in an older blue label holder. The strike is sharp on Liberty's head and mostly complete on the branch hand. Delicate golden toning warms each side with deeper amber and lavender hues emerging from the peripheries. There are no major abrasions. Population: 45 in 65 (5 in 65+), 9 finer. CAC: 10 in 65, 8 finer (3/17).
