Early Dollars
1795 $1 Flowing Hair, Three Leaves, B-5, BB-27, R.1, AU50 NGC. Bowers Die State IV, although the clash at Liberty's chin is faint. BB-27 is a plentiful Three Leaves die pairing, although the bulk of its population is in middle or low circulated grades. About Uncirculated coins are seldom offered. In Mint State, the 1795 Three Leaves dollar is rare regardless of variety. This AU coin will appeal to the quality-conscious type collector. The strike is impressively sharp, showing crisp definition of the stars, Liberty portrait, eagle's head, and wings. Both sides display deep smoke-gray patina with golden accents here and there. The obverse is without discernible adjustment marks, while the reverse shows faint remnants of a few along the upper border and on the eagle's breast. A few thin, mint-made grease streaks are also seen across the reverse center horizontally, although they blend into the patina.
