1795 $1 Flowing Hair, Three Leaves, B-5, BB-27, R.1, AU55 PCGS. Bowers Die State III. BB-27 is a plentiful variety, although the majority of the population is in the VG to XF grade range. About Uncirculated representatives make infrequent appearances at auction, and high-end AU coins are genuinely scarce. BB-27 is rarely encountered in Mint State, and such coins are usually out of reach for the budget-conscious collector due to the demand for high-end Flowing Hair type coins.
This Choice AU Three Leaves type coin displays a bold, even strike with only slight high-point wear on the eagle's breast and the high points of Liberty's hair. In fact, hints of luster remain in the protected regions of the reverse fields. The coin is toned in lavender-gray and gold with blue hues also seen near the borders. Mint-made adjustment marks are visible on the portrait and along the left obverse border.
