Trade Dollars
1876-CC T$1 Type One Reverse MS63 NGC. Type One Obverse, Type One Reverse. Tall CC Mintmark. Scarce with the Type I/I pairing. Although relatively available in circulated grades, Mint State examples of the 1876-CC are rare in all grades -- outdistancing even the low-mintage 1878-CC in condition rarity. A check of our archives shows we have handled fewer than a dozen 1876-CC Trade dollars in MS63 or finer condition in the past 20 years.
This Select Uncirculated coin displays attractive rainbow toning on both sides with semiprooflike fields. The strike is sharp but not quite full on Liberty's curls and the eagle's forward leg and talons. Housed in a previous generation NGC holder, the colorful eye appeal is exceptional and the surfaces are well above average for this Carson City issue. Only a few small, widely scattered marks determine the assigned grade. Census: 8 in 63 (1 in 63+), 4 finer (3/17).
