Proof Trade Dollars
1877 T$1 PR66 Cameo PCGS. CAC. Ex: Legend. This is the only Premium Gem Cameo example that we have handled in a PCGS holder. NGC-certified coins have made only rare appearances over the past decade. A CAC-endorsed NGC coin in lot 7288 of our August 2011 Chicago Signature sale realized $14,950. This piece is brilliant, and the field-device contrast is readily apparent. The proof 1877 Trade dollar is a rarity in Premium Gem condition even without a Cameo designation, although Cameos are in a distinct minority. None are finer than this numeric level at PCGS, and we can find no auction appearances of either of the two finer NGC coins within the past decade. Razor-sharp detail adds to the eye appeal of this top-end PCGS coin, which is also among the finest endorsed by CAC. There are no distracting marks. Population: 3 in 66 (1 in 66+) Cameo, 0 finer. CAC: 3 in 66, 0 finer (3/17).
