Morgan Dollars
1891-CC $1 Spitting Eagle, VAM-3, Top 100, MS66 PCGS. A Top 100 Variety. Spitting Eagle or not, an MS66 1891-CC silver dollar is a rare bird regardless of variety. This remarkably mark-free and frost-white Premium Gem is nothing short of a Carson City enthusiast's dream coin. Housed in an old blue-label holder with the barcode on the back, the coin displays abiding silver luster despite a thick blanket of mint frost that covers the fields and raised motifs alike.
The frosted surfaces seem vulnerable to marks and grazes, but signs of contact are notably few. A small reeding mark above the eagle's head hovers over the diagnostic die lump that confirms the VAM-3 variety. The strike is pinpoint-sharp on Liberty's hair strands except for the immediate area above the ear. Both eye appeal and surface quality are extraordinary. Population: 35 in 66 (5 in 66+), 1 finer (3/17).
From The Siegel Collection.
