Morgan Dollars
1893-CC $1 MS64 PCGS. This final-year Carson City Mint issue is elusive in Uncirculated grades compared to other issues from this mint, and it is genuinely rare above Choice Mint State. The primary source of Mint State Carson City dollars was the GSA sales of the early 1970s, which yielded only a single 1893-CC. After the disbursement of the GSA hoard, the scarcity of the 1893-CC is high grade was set in stone.
Deep violet, blue, red, and orange patina covers the obverse of this near-Gem, while the reverse has lighter purple, rose, and tan colors around the periphery. Flashy luster radiates beneath the attractive toning. PCGS and NGC combined have certified just 23 examples numerically finer (3/17).
Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 9/2009), lot 1132.
