Morgan Dollars
1903-S $1 MS65 PCGS. CAC. Ex: M.J.O. There are a number of low-end Mint State 1903-S dollars on the market, but eye appeal is usually lacking. Collectors who set their sights higher -- on the Gem grade level -- will encounter a challenge in locating a coin, but when found its quality will be worth the search. The 1903-S is one of key dates in the 20th century portion of the series, and a Gem example would be a highlight of the entire Morgan dollar collection.
This CAC-approved MS65 displays vibrant, brilliant luster with softly frosted texture. The strike is sharp, and there is some reflectivity in the reverse fields. A few tiny grazes on the cheek are seen only with a loupe. PCGS reports 49 finer examples, including possible resubmissions. CAC: 29 in 65, 10 finer (3/17).
