Peace Dollars
1928-S $1 MS65 PCGS. Ex: Ward T. Miller, Jr. Some collectors are surprised when they learn this issue is the rarest Peace dollar in MS65 or finer condition, surpassing both the 1928 Philadelphia date and the low-mintage 1934-S dollar. Poor production quality at the San Francisco Mint is the reason, because the mintage of 1.6 million pieces would suggest a greater Gem population.
This brilliant, lustrous Gem is an aberration among the legions of poorly struck coins representing the issue. The strike is extremely bold for the issue. Attractive silver-white surfaces display nice cartwheel luster and only a few minor abrasions. For Peace dollar enthusiasts, the coin is of great importance and worth an especially strong bid. Population: 61 in 65 (1 in 65+), 1 finer (3/17).
