Indian Quarter Eagles
1911-D $2 1/2 MS64 NGC. Strong D. The 1911-D quarter eagle is a favorite of crack-out artists, as its value climbs significantly from grade to grade in the finer Mint State levels. It is much rarer in MS65 than the certified population figures suggest, and even Choice coins appear at auction infrequently compared to the reported population.
This near-Gem displays the characteristically muted luster of the '11-D, with softly lustrous straw-gold coloration. Close study of the surfaces reveals a surprisingly clean obverse and only one small mark on the reverse, behind the eagle's head. Were it not for that one mark, this piece might have warranted a finer grade. The strike is sharp, and the overall eye appeal excels in comparison to most other MS64 coins on the market.
